AMALA: COLLAGEN BOOSTING PEPTIDE MASK REVIEW

By: Skin Care Ox

Written By: Diane Elizabeth K. // First Published: 05/20/2020

The Collagen Boosting Peptide Mask from Amala promises to deliver significant improvement in the smoothness of your skin–after just one application. While that may sound that a bold claim, Amala backs up those claims with third party independent clinical trials. From our experiences testing Amala products, we know that the brand definitely has products which can deliver on grand promises of skin rejuvenation. Is the Collagen Boosting Peptide mask one of them? Can the mask really reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles? To answer these questions, our team of reviewers used this organic anti-aging face mask for four weeks. During those 30 days, our team also researched every ingredient in the Collagen Boosting Peptide Mask’s formula and analyzed online customer reviews for the product.

Below, you’ll find a complete summary of our in-depth six week review of Amala’s Collagen Boosting Peptide Mask. Our reviews are organized into three categories: The Clean Ingredient Score (is the product made with clean ingredients?), Product Design & Effectiveness Score (does it actually work?), and the Online Customer Review Score (what is everyone else saying?). Combined, this review should provide everything you need to decide if this anti-aging mask is right for you. Enjoy!

CLEAN INGREDIENT SCORE

Amala’s Collagen Boosting Peptide Mask has earned a Clean Ingredient Score of an “A+” for its 100% certified natural, organic, and non-toxic spa-grade facial mask. This mask formula contains 45  ingredients of which 8 are organically sourced (including sunflower oil, lemon peel oil, styrax benzoin resin extract, vanilla fruit extract, ylang ylang, tonka bean, rose damascena flower oil, and bergamot peel oil ) and all ingredients are certified natural by the European organic certifying organization, NATRUE. The formula is also gluten free, and gmo-free. For its preservative system, the Collagen Boosting Peptide Mask uses a combination of natural pentylene glycol (derived from non-gmo corn and sugar cane), radish root ferment, lactobacillus ferment, citric acid, sodium citrate, and an airless packaging/dispensing system.

Clean Ingredient Summary

| 100% NATURAL | NON-GMO | CRUELTY FREE | GLUTEN FREE

Top Clean Ingredients

  • Living Beauty Complex: Amala’s signature concentrated blend of “living” bio-active and bio-available nutrients which includes a fermented blend of peony (brightening), rose gold (anti-inflammatory), amla (vitamin C), and spirulina (detoxifying | antioxidant). This “living” fermented probiotic blend adjusts to your skin’s unique terrain to provide more of what your skin needs.
  • Cocoa Pre+Probiotic Infusion: A blend of cocoa bean vegan probiotics along with tonka bean and chicory root prebiotics designed to replenish collagen, firm skin, and minimize inflammation.
  • Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate /Vitamin C: A derivative of Absorbic Acid thought to be more stable and effective than natural L-ascorbic acid. Vitamin C combats the free radical damage that happens with age and helps to promote collagen production.
  • Hyaluronic Acid: Derived from yeast extract, this powerful humectant can hold more than 1,000 times its weight in water and dramatically boosts moisture retention. The high molecular weight hyaluronic acid in the Collagen Boosting Peptide Mask doesn’t absorb into the skin like a low molecular weight hyaluronic acid would. Instead this high weight hyaluronic acid sits on top of the skin–attracting moisture to the surface while you mask.
  • Yeast Peptides: Natural peptides (derived from yeast) which are thought to stimulate collagen production. These peptides are also used for their ability to improve skin tone and elasticity.
  • Milk Peptides: Natural peptides (derived from milk) which are thought to stimulate collagen production, improve skin tone, and make skin appear more youthful through improved elasticity.
  • Moth Bean: A natural alternative to synthetic retinol. Thought to stimulate cell turnover and collagen production similarly to retinol.

Preservatives Used:

  • Pentylene Glycol: Natural | Derived from Non-GMO Corn & Sugar Cane | Preservative | EWG Score: 1
  • Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate: Natural | Preservative | EWG Score: 1

Concerning Ingredients
  • Pentylene Glycol: Pentylene glycol is used in skin care for its preservative qualities. Pentylene Glycol can either be derived from petroleum or naturally derived from non-GMO sugar cane and corn. (Amala products use non-gmo, natural pentylene glycol). Natural pentylene glycol is thought to act as an emollient with a moisturizing effect similar to vegetable glycerin. (source | source)
  • Limonene: A natural compound of certain essential oils. While natural versions of limonene have some benefits, synthetic versions can possibly lead to skin irritation or allergic reactions (hence the EWG rating range of 4-5). Due to a change in labeling regulations in the EU, manufacturers are required to list limonene on ingredient labels even if it only exists in the product as a natural constituent of essential oils contained within the product. (source | source)
  • Linalool: Linalool is a natural component of essential oil. Synthetic versions can possibly lead to skin irritation or allergic reactions (hence the EWG rating range of 3). Due to a change in labeling regulations, manufacturers are required to list linalool on ingredient labels even if only naturally present in essential oils and not isolated chemicals added to the formulation. (source | source)
  • Citral: A naturally occurring scent ingredient derived from plants such as verbena and citronella. While natural versions of citral have some benefits, synthetic versions can lead to skin irritation or allergic reactions (hence the EWG rating range of 3). Due to a change in labeling regulations in the EU, manufacturers are required to list citral on ingredient labels even if it only exists in the product as a natural constituent of essential oils contained within the product. • Benzyl Benzoate: A naturally occurring scent compound derived from plants such as ylang ylang, jasmine, rosewood, and cinnamon. While natural versions of benzyl benzoate have some benefits, synthetic versions can possibly lead to skin irritation or allergic reactions (hence the EWG rating range of 4). Due to a change in labeling regulations in the EU, manufacturers are required to list benzyl benzoate on ingredient labels even if it only exists in the product as a natural constituent of essential oils contained within the product. PRODUCT DESIGN & EFFECTIVENESS
a_score_icon_t-min

Amala’s Collagen Boosting Peptide Mask has earned a Product Design & Effectiveness Score of an “A”. The duration of our review trial for the Collagen Boosting Mask lasted four weeks. Our team trialed this anti-aging alongside Amala’s Silky Cream Moisture Cleanser, Advanced Firming Complex moisturizer, and their Advanced Firming Concentrate serum.

The Collagen Boosting Peptide Mask comes beautifully packaged like all Amala products. The mask comes pre-mixed and ready to use in a 1.69 oz travel-friendly tube bottle dispenser. We love this packaging as it allows for easy dispensing of the mask and prevents against contamination because you don’t need to dip a brush or finger into the product to dispense it. The texture of the mask is that of a creamy gel that spreads easily onto the skin. It has an almost non-existent scent that can be described as mildly fruity. Once applied, this mask doesn’t dry on the skin–it stays in a gel state on the skin. For dry skin and mature skin types, this non-drying feature is a great benefit.

As for performance, the Collagen Boosting Peptide Mask is a great addition to any anti-aging skin care routine. Overall, the mask does a solid job at smoothing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles after just a few uses and a significant job over the course of 30 days. Our reviewers with more pronounced lines and wrinkles reported the biggest difference in their skin. For those with more subtle fine lines, it took a few weeks of use to visibly notice the difference. Immediately after use, reviewers reported that their skin “definitely feels more firm,” “looked brighter” and “feels soft to the touch.” One great thing about the Collagen Boosting Peptide Mask is that it contains a high concentration of vitamin C (which can help with dark spots, sagging skin, and dull looking skin).

Overall, The Collagen Boosting Peptide mask does what it promises to do: to smooth fine lines and wrinkles. It is packed with ingredients focused on achieving that end.  If you are looking for a weekly anti-wrinkle “pick me up,” then this organic face mask is a fantastic choice. For those looking for a facial mask that does it all (for example exfoliation and pore detoxification), then this formula may be too focused for your needs.

Product Effectiveness Summary

Works Best For: All Skin | Mature Skin | Dull Skin

Official Usage Instructions: Use daily for 3 days, then 1–2 times per week. Apply a generous amount to clean face and neck, avoiding the eye area. Leave on for 20–30 minutes and rinse with cool water.

Ease of Use: This pre-mixed mask is easy to apply in a snap (no need for mixing ingredients). Can be applied using your finger or a mask brush after dispensing from the tube. Must be worn for 20-30 minutes. It is a clear mask that doesn’t dry on the skin; thus, it is a great mask to wear while multi-tasking.
